With an exciting final round of the Masters Tournament pending at Augusta National Golf Club, this seems an appropriate time to post a video of a golf club that uses an explosive charge to propel the ball.

The club uses a plastic strip of five (5) small powder charges, called a Power Strip. Energy from the charge drives the striker in the club head forward to hit the ball. An adjustable range control enables shots from approximately 25 to 200 yards. The handle grip has two parts – the upper grip slides up a few inches to cock the club, and the lower grip has the safety and the trigger. Holding the club like a regular driver, position it on the grass about an inch behind the ball (no tees needed) and press the safety and the trigger on the lower grip. With no swing involved there are no divots, fewer errant shots and fewer lost golf balls.

1. How does the Swingless Golf Club work?

2. Does the Range Adjustment take the "game" out of Golf?The range adjustment allows you to combine shots of varying distances to get as close to the putting green as you need, but it is not a precise control where you dial in and get an exact distance. Also like any other player, with every shot you must still consider water hazards, bunkers, wind direction, distance, loft, the roll of the ball, etc. And since you’ll finish play at the green with traditional clubs, the skill needed for the short game remains the same. 3. Is the swingless golf club loud?No louder than when a conventional metal driver hits a golf ball.  A golfer with a good swing and a metal driver will produce a sound level of 94 to 97 decibels when hitting the ball.  The swingless club is typically 88 to 95 decibels, depending on the range control setting.

4. Who might benefit from the Swingless Club?People of any age who just want some outdoor fun without the time-intensive learning curve needed to master the long drive with a conventional club, people reluctant to try golfing - or ex-golfers who'd given up - because they have a physical limitation that would be aggravated by the long drive (like a minor back problem or some arthritis), friends and partners of avid golfers, people whose doctors want them to get exercise and who realize 18 holes would be much more pleasant than a treadmill in a gym, charity tournament planners, etc..  Anyone who feels they can learn to make chip and putt shots near and on the green.

5. Can I make fade or draw shots with the Swingless Club?Yes, and it's easy (fade shots move left to right; draw shots move right to left).  Instructions will be included with the club.

6. Are golf tees necessary?Golf tees are not necessary. The club's striker already has a lifting angle built into it.  However, there may be times when you might want the ball on a tee to purposefully get an even higher shot.

7. Will I need lessons?We believe much of the fun of golf involves the "short game" - namely chip and putt shots near and on the putting greens. We recommend that players new to the game take a few lessons from a PGA or LPGA Professional to learn about course management (planning your shots) and rules in general. We will be happy to refer you to a local Golf Professional.

8. Can I use the Swingless Golf club in competitive play?
The Swingless Club wouldn't be for use in competition, but then, it isn't meant to replace traditional golf.

9. How many Power Strips would I use to play 18 holes?Each hole on a course is different and some might require two shots to get close to the putting green, while others may only require one shot. We expect 18 holes might involve using the Swingless club 35 times or so. The boxes of power strips are sold with 20 strips of 5 shots each, so 35 shots would use 7 strips.

10. Is there much maintenance?
Cleaning is easy and requires maybe 3 to 5 minutes.  The owner's manual explains how easy it is. We recommend cleaning the club after each round of nine or eighteen holes, or after each session at a driving range.

11. Is this a good way to get exercise?
Doctors tell us walking is good aerobic exercise and playing a typical 18 hole golf course involves leisurely walking around 3 miles of manicured lawns, pausing to play each shot as you go, and bending over to pick up the golf ball numerous times. Also the golfing experience is much more fun than a treadmill or stationary bike in a gym and better than walking the same route of neighborhood streets every day. It's no surprise that the tournament players on TV are all pretty healthy-looking people.  If you wish, start by playing only 9 holes and work your way up from there. And try knee-bends when picking up the ball!
